EPR Training and Equipment Use

EPR Training and Equipment Use

In additional to providing EPR as a service, we provide training for use of the EPR spectrophotometer for researchers that would like to run their own samples. In order to maintain the longevity and proper functioning of the equipment, please read the guidelines below to help us maintain these resources for everyone in a cost effective manner.

Training: All labs using the EPR equipment must have their personnel trained as a fee for service. Training is only valid if done by lab personnel from the diagnostics lab. Lab members can’t train each other. Training sessions can be arranged by appointment. Each training session can be attended by 2 people from each lab at a time, and will last approximately 8 hours to ensure proper usage of the equipment. The training will cover equipment use, safety guidelines, sample prep, and how to analyze your data. Please contact Sarah Wong at: swwwong@ucdavis.edu or (530)-752-1038 to schedule a training session. Prior to your training session, please read over the EPR Handbook /safety policy guidelines [Link to Download tab] and sign the safety policy at the end of the page and return it to us via email or at the start of your training session.

Equipment use: Use of the EPR spectrophotometer is available from 9-5 p.m. We do not allow use of the equipment if lab personnel are not available to deal with mishaps or malfunctions that may occur. Please plan your experiments accordingly. Links to the equipment manuals are also made available under Downloads [Link to Download tab].Please familiarize yourself with the manuals, as well as our safety guidelines. Small quantities of chemicals are allowed in the EPR facility, but must be accompanied with a copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). It is your responsibility to ensure equipment is kept clean and in good working order for the next person to use. Please let us know if you feel the conditions have not been met.
